Unlikely 148-Pitch No Hitter, Giants Up to Old Tricks Again?

The will of the person to succeed is strong, but sometimes the body is not as strong, and a little boost is all they need to get to the top. Perhaps this is a struggling person, who is looking for some sort of big breakthrough to live out his dream and take care of his family, is he evil if he were to give in to temptation that are performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs)?

 - Jay Nault, from 'Train Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger: The Many Effects of PEDs in Baseball, NETWORKS, Cornell University

Lincecum says he wasn't tired after 148 pitches

Sorry but something, again, doesn't smell right with the #San Francisco Giants. As in the past, after a bad streak, the #Giànts suddenly and magically get better. The team starts hitting , the pitchers pitching - and now a no hitter from #Tim Lincecum, his first, on an astounding 148 pitches! This from a little guy who couldn't normally get past the sixth inning. When was his last complete game? And he says he wasn't even tired after this historic game, the first no hitter ever pitched in #San Diego Petco Park on this July 14.

Sure you can say the Padres are a patsy and have lost 14 of 15, but these were all on the road except for the three latest with the Giànts- and San Diego had most of its injured regulars back in the lineup . And it's  middle lineup has a .300 lifetime average against Lincecum. Sure the Giànts get a lot of fans in San Diego but that's still not a home field advantage. Even Hunter Pence, cold as ice the past three weeks had five RBIs and Sandoval is suddenly hitting. No doubt Tim Lincecum, who's never been adverse to using artificial stimulants, was pissed off at their losing streak, along with his fellow Giants, as well as recently being no hit themselves, so Tim probably got in his head that  he could throw a no hitter himself, whatever it takes, even   in a season where he has a   4.26 ERA and  not even  complete game or much  more than 100 pitches pitched.

And it's very interesting that this no hitter occurred on a day then Giants latest  acquisition, Jeff  Franquer came in from - you guessed it- Kansas City. Kansas City has long been Brian Sabean's favorite team (almost the exclusive team) with which he deals. Virtually every new player in recent years has come to the Giants by way of or thru  KC. One-fifth - 11 - of all player suspensions since 2005 are   Venezuelans (Wikipaedia)    - and these  are   players who've been having career years as soon as coming to Giànts, namely Blanco, Mijares, Machi and, especially Scutaro, who has hit well over .300 since coming to Giànts and has cut his strikeouts in half, even whole being injured. Scutaro is 37 and never hit above .299 even in his prime until meeting up with his countrymen like Cabrera , before he was suspended from the Giants. Sandoval went on an amazing streak the end of last year with seven - many massive - homers the last few weeks after Scutaro , Mijares and Blamvo and Mijares came along . Even shortstop Crawford started hitting well above his average after Scutaro joined the team and playing next to him.  Scutaro.  Sandoval, along with Pagan, Casia and others ,while maybe not ALL coming over from KC have perhaps benefited from their new friends.Lincecum, no hitter, Giants, #no hitter, #lincecum

Much like Bonds and friends a decade ago, and still under Sabean's watch, it all seems very incestuous . Remember  Bonds years where guys like Aurilea, Williams, Alfonzo and Santangelo, Santiago, Estrella and Bernard all benefitted - and were later indicted (not suspended)  in the Michell report- for what was their  likely associationwith Bonds. I even recall an interview -which most forget or never heard when it didn't mean much - with Bonds back   around 2002,  when he promised to pass on his 'secrets' of his new found success to fellow players. Wish  I could find that tape.

And now, it's almost like Francoeur brings SOMETHING to  the team - literally- and they're off and running again ala 2010 and 2012  .  Hopefully, we're wrong about this - and Francoeur isn't from Venezuela - but why would the Sabean sign a guy who hit only .208 last year and .235 the year before to the World Champion Giants unless he had some ulterior motives up his sleeve, ie  Remember the Giànts were just treading water around .500 and the Guillen came over with his 'package' and the Giànts had their best month before MLBcomvinced the Giants to keep the once convicted Guillen off the playoff  team. But by now seemingly everyone was benefiting from Guillen!s likely gifts . There was Ross hitting his eight homers and guys like Uribe  and Renteria suddenly becoming world beaters.  suddenly the pitching staff got hotter. In 2012 the pattern was the same when Mijares and Scutaro came in mid season , the  latter to hit over .350 , which suddenly triggered Sandoval and the Giànts
to have their best month in September.

And now just when the  Giants are having their worst streak in years they suddenly and magically bounce back again. Whether Francoeur really had anything to do with it is questionable but by now the Giànts have become    infested  with PEDs, after a decade of deceit, just  like   Victor  Contre  warned  us - in this permissive era where 'new ' MLB drug testing hasn't busted a single player this year after only busting two Giànts , one Athletic and one other  last year.

Then Giants won their two World Series in three years with virtually two completely different teams but lots of ex -KC / Venezuelan players and the same system of bringing in 'infected' players of questionable backgrounds, Pitcher Chad Gaudin is just the latest such example - and besides his newsworthy 'hospital visit'  suddenly pitching way below his lifetime 4.0+ ERA.   It will be interesting to see if Sabean can dig up any more 'Gaudins' or  Scutaros  Watch your eye on Francouer and if he improves on that .225 average of the past two seasons at Kansas City. .But perhaps there's already enough ' juice' flowing in the Giants clubhouse.

Unlikely 148-Pitch No Hitter, Giants Up to Old Tricks Again?

Now, for the final 'Connect the dots....'  We didn't want to have to go into this, hoping things would get better and the Giants would finally clean up its PED act...but it's already been in the news yet few probably saw this just like the implicating interview with Bonds back in 2002. We report this  just to hammer home with all the evidence  of unfair play, lest people continue to pass off the Giants as  legit. Here it is:

A now retired Giant recently interviewed by the Salt Lake  Times told how he was encouraged by a Coach in the Giànts minor league system to use PEDs to help his flagging career.  This was no doubt an isolated incident , especially after what we've seen  ane the type of players the Giànts have brought in. o have a player , albeit ex Giant , actually admit to this is very telling. What more  do we need to connect the final dots. Baseball has devolved and San Francisco is the epicenter of devolution. If you really enjoy this type of baseball its a sad day for all concerned, at least for us fans who grew up with and remember the 'Golden Era' of baseball and the Mays and McCoveys when we didn't have to try to figure out who was or who wasn't taking PEDs. We thought there was still hope but  it doesnt look like the 'Win at all costs' Giànts are going to go anything about it. Afterall, they've been at their shenanigans for so long, and the folks in liberal San Francisco, or the MLB powers aren't doing anything about it. Certainly Larry Baer  doesn't want to break  that consecutive  sellout  streak... which might have been in jeopardy after these past few weeks . (In fact I noticed large blocks of empty seats but the Giants have continued to calling all the games 'sellouts.') It will take  a move now from above now , it would appear,, ie the commissioner, which may be a long shot. It's been over 10 years and ,yes, we believe , in our opinion PEDs are now as rampant as ever on the Giànts.  So, stand up  local sportswriters or just keep living the lie you   know and saw manifest  itself again in Lincecums unlikely 148 pitch no hitter.*

*Last guys to pitch no hitters with lose to this many pitches blew out there arms, one being Johann Santana with 136 pitches. Perhaps the onc e fragile Lincecum is now bionic and the giants untouchable.

Gaudin PItches , Wins for Giants As If Nothing Happened

Chad goudin
July 13. 2013

Not too surprised the Giants went ahead and let Chad Gaudin pitch last night against the Padres, a day after he was brought up on charges of lewdness for fondling a woman on a gurney in a hospital. Afterall, a 'nobody' until this year, he's suddenly the Giants' second best starter right now with a career best 2.41 ERA and 1.14 whip since coming to the Giants this year. Last year he was 4.54 ERA with the Marlins. Here's a guy who's been on nine teams in nine years with a lifetime 4.45 ERA, whose never had an ERA below 3.00 and suddenly a star for the Giants now in his thirties - but not an unusual pattern for the Giants. Players just don't suddenly improve their performance numbers like that except on the Giants it seems. We've cited similar performances from other Giants newcomers like Blanco, Scutaro, Mijares, Pagan, Vogelsong, etc. Not surprised Gaudin and the Giants won a rare game last night, although playing the Padres  didn't hurt. Below chart was through June.

Re. the  Gaudin hosptial incident, which happened in January, for which there was enough evidence to report it to the media now,  there was little mention of it during the game.  Giants announcer Dave Flemming just touched on 'Gaudin's touch week' right away and how he was handling things in a calm manner.  San Diego announcer didn't even bring the subject up until the middle of the game and acted almost apologetic for saying almost nothing including ' I'm not going to talk about it anymore.' Well, he hardly did, but it was news for which one shouldn't be afraid to bring it up.  The fans - almost half Giants fans in San Diego Petco Park - didn't show any  reaction to Gaudin from what we could discern from watching the game on TV. Just business as usual  - and that's the problem with the PED thing; most people seem to ignore it as if they don't care.

SCUTARO HITTING UNLIKELY .491 DURING 19 GAME HITTING STREAK, SANDOVAL CLOSE BEHIND

38 YEAR OLD SCUTARO HITTING .491 DURING 19 GAME HITTING STREAK, SANDOVAL CLOSE BEHIND

Classic baseball
It's been a month or two since we've reported in these pages but we're back after having , inexplicably, 'LOST' our main website blog, Where Did You Go Joe Dimaggio... We'll give another update here, with a preamble that our only intention by so doing with this and other blogs is to WAKE UP fans and people of the real SIDESHOW that's going on in baseball, and especially in San Francisco, in our opinion. Yes, we live in a different world today, but theperformance enchancing drugs - though they may help veteran players recover form injuries and enhance their games - are still illegal and make for an uneven and unnatural - and UNFAIR- playing field . It's now well over 10 years since Barry Bonds got things going, as it were,  and younger fans have only seen baseball played the modern  way . We think they would benefit , as would society, of seeing baseball, again, return , to the natural, REAL Fileld of Dreams, as it were. For  old school fans, like ourselves , it would be nice to be able to , once again, watch games without having to play our own game of  'who's on PEDs and who's not.  '   Baseball continues to sell, despite itself  - and , perhaps, the PEDs are helping sell the sport.  But despite what Al David and Vince Lomaarbdi said about winning - and now what we find happening in places like ATanT park in San Francisco, does it have to be all about winning at any cost, because that's what's happening here.  It's been over 10 years and the same shenanigans (another vintage term you younger folks can learn here) are going on in San Francisco and certainly other baseball towns, to a lesser extent.  We know a lot of people are concerned - for both reasons already mentioned as well as HEALTH concerns- yet few speak out about it . And that's all we're trying to do here.  Not to sound puritanical or holier than thou.  Just to make a point by some of us who remember an earlier.

sandoval after home runSF GIANTS ALWAYS COME BACK WHEN THEY NEED TO, WANT TO...WIN AT WILL...

How is it that, seemingly, every time the San Francisco Giants go on a losing streak on the road they come back to San Francisco and suddenly turn things around to the point of rediculousness. The starting pitcher will suddenly and 'mysteriously' raise his velocity over previous starts , hitters will come off the bench to become world beaters and fielding will improve (largely since the other team is not hitting the ball)...

It happened again Monday night, May 20. After one of their worst road trips (1-5) in Toronto and Colorado where none of the starters went more than five innings and the team was outscored three to one in the series, Ryan Vogelsong suddenly became a pitcher by, again, 'mysteriously' raising his velocity, the key to getting the opposing batters out. Two or three miles an hour can make a big difference and that's what he did this night, shutting out the strong Washington nationals through the first five or six innings. Bench hitters like Andre Torrez will come out of the cold to get several key hits. the batters will rarely strike out.

Then on Tuesday night, the Giants did it again, waiting until the ninth inning to win the game.   A normally marginal player like Gregor Blanco is becoming  the Andre Torrez of 2012, who would normally strike out or make  an out on another team but comes up for the Giants  and works the count before hitting a long triple on  a two strike pitch off Washington's ace reliever.  Game tied. Then Sandoval come s up and, you guessed it , whacks it out for his  eighth homer. At this rate he'll have over 40 this season, something he has never come close to...   Washington hardly  had a chance.

You see, some these Giants virtually stopped striking out. They've improved, yes, their sight and hand-eye coordination and they're hitting the ball a lot farther as they get older. Shades of Barry Bonds - and for similar reasons they're doing it, whicih we've chronicled  here.  It gets disgusting to us baseball purists .  Guys like Sandoval , who was a strikeout king all of his career , until last year, and Scutaro , at 38, are hitting rediculously  - yet nobody questions any of it, except maybe for us. But, certainly, people must be thinking 'what's going on here...'

We've heard of 'home cooking' but this is rediculous. We KNOW wh at's going on and we've tried to educate fans who care. We've explained how the new 'secret sauce' can work quickly and be out of the system quickly. You haven't seen any players susspended this year for PEDs and you probably won't, yet many are using...

Just look at the numbers and fluctuations over time. We've laid it out for you, thought THEY have shut down our main website so we can no longer direct you, again, to those. YOu'll have to do your own research. It's easy... and obvious - and amazing that others arent't reporting the bad along with the good, as it were.

We may not be your 'watchdog' much longer as the pressure is on us, apparently, to decist
from reporting and doing and saying and exposing as we feel we should. Journalism from
the old school, which we were brought up on. But, today, when's the last time you really
saw an investigative report? It's all about 'schmoozing' today, being paid off or whatever.
Not wanting to lose one's job.

The Giants are the Barack Obama's of baseball. They just have been caught this time around;
lord knows, after their history you'd think there'd be more people checking up on their
circumspect ways. In any city other than San Francisco IT would have surely come out by now.
Especially on the East coast. Look at Big Daddy on Boston and what he's been going through
of late for (probably) using the stuff; what with those big numbers at his advanced age
you have to at least question it...plus there's been considerable suspect in his past.
But , in liberal San Francisco anything goes. Do your thing. Win at any cost, even management
will go along. After all, they're the ones going after all these questionable players
other teams don't seem to want. And we know why? Currently the Giants have six or seven
players from Melky Cabrera country, Venezuela. We only bring that up because the most
circumspect Giants hail from there - and the Giants keep going after them; even the no names
become sudden stars on the Giants. Just look at the names among the leaders on the Giants...
pitchers especially, you wouldn't expect.

So , we digress. This could be the end of our reporting. We feel like the AP reporters
that Obama was checking up on and don't want to go through that. So, we will probably close
up shop as your baseball watchdogs and go over to San Rafael and watch what he hear is
REAL baseball... at least give it a chance. Tired of these overpaid players who seem
to perform eratically. It's not ONLY the Giants but that seems to be the center of attention.
The Oakland A'z have had their suspect players too, to a lesser extreme. And, of course,
this is the center of Balco where IT all began back in the late 80s, but before it had
really gone viral , as it were....

So, keep going to to all the Giants 'sellouts' and root for your team and have fun,
if that's what you think is fun...

Why do the Giants pitchers fluctuate in velocity so much, ie vogelsong, Lincecum, Bumgarner?

Only Cain has normal velocity from outing to outing. Kind of revealing I'd say, ie after a few bad
outings Vogelsong somehow raised his velocity Monday night right when he needed it.
SCUTARO and SANDOVAL STILL OTHERWORLDLY
As of May 23,  Marco Scutaro was hitting .491 during his 19 game hitting streak, which continued against Washington.   After coming to the Giants last July he's hitting over .350 and his strikeouts are miniscule, one of the best in the league along with on base percentage.
Fellow Venezuelan countryman, Sandoval isn't far behind, but has eight homeruns in a little over a month. Add that to his seven last Sepftemer and he's on a pace for 40+ homers, far more than he's ever hit in a season.  Until last September he was a wild swinger who struck out a lot. He's still a wild swinger but he's cut his strike outs in half or less.  There's no rational explanation for these two players extreme improvements  except for PEDs, in our view.

NEW BASEBALL DRUG TESTING - ANY REAL CHANGE?

'THANK  YOU  LORD  for Giving us Commissioner Bud Selig'

BREAKING DOWN  ' NEW'  2013 BASEBALL DRUG TESTING CHANGES

Concerned as some of us baseball purists are about the increasing negative affect PEDs have had on the grand old game, we thought we'd take a look at the current , supposedly updated,  drug testing and what all it entails. Will it really make a significant difference in reducing the number of cheaters in the game? From Wikipedia 4-10-13:

"2006 Testing Policy has tests  administered via scientifically-validated urine test.

Each Player shall be tested upon reporting to spring training. All Players will be selected for an additional unannounced urine specimen collection on a randomly selected date.

In-Season testing

On January 10, 2013, MLB and the players union reached an agreement to add random, in-season human growth hormone and to a new test to reveal the use of testosterone. (We are told this is a test that will detect for synthetic testosterone, formerly undetectable by testing measures)  Testing will begin the 2013 season.( "Baseball to Expand Drug-Testing Program". New York Times. Retrieved 10 January 2013.)"

From Bob Baum of Associated Press (1-10-13),
"Baseball players were subject to blood testing for HGH during spring training last year, and Thursday’s(2013) agreement between management and the MLB Players Association expands that throughout the season. Those are in addition to urine tests for other performance-enhancing drugs."

Now, our real problem is with the next line from Baum's article of 1-10-13,
"Rob Manfred, executive vice president for economics and league affairs, said each player will be tested at least once." )     Hardly 'throughout' the season!

That was our big question , which seemed well hidden , even not listed as far as we could see - WHEN and HOW OFTEN are these tests given? We've heard in the past that the players are actually given notice days ahead of the test. Even without this a player need only wait for the test and , once given, can go back on the PEDs, with the knowledge that he would be very unlikely to get another test for a long period, perhaps the rest of the season.  'At least once' likely means once, maybe twice max - and probably tests would be spread months apart.

So, a guy like Marco Scutaro of the San Francisco Giants, who starts the season batting in the low  100's after finishing up last year in the high  300's, waits for the test, which might have been given, say,  last week.  And, lo and behold, folowing the test, suddenly the hitting is back, and Scutaro has five hits in two games and is already back up to .200 and climbing after only having  a couple hits the previous six games!   He can probably not worry about another test for another month or two at least, continuing on the stuff and supposedly 'fooling' us and helping lead the Giants to yet another tainted World Series. (Pretty interesting how a team like the Giants won two World Series in three years with, basically, two completely different teams ...but a lot of connections!)

Marco Scutaro Missing More Than His Swing

Marco Scutaro Missing More Than His Swing

Marco Scutaro, now batting below the Mendoza line,  says that he can't find his swing.

Maybe Marco better go find  not only his swing but more importantly the little bottle with the good stuff Melky gave him that raised his average last year , suddenly, over 100 points and cut strikeouts in half ; he , in turn, gave to Pablo and who knows how many others. Oh, I guess it's testing time in the majors so Scutaro  may be waiting that out. Then, you'll suddenly see marco go from Mendoza to Melky or better, again... Just wait and see - like last year - at age 37!. 'Miracles' do happen in what they call  Baseball  2013.    Yet, Pablo is brave right now, hasn't lost a beat -er, syringe, from last fall. More @ http://wheredidyougojoedimaggio1.blogspot.com/

Meanwhile, looks like Crawford has really gone over to the other side. Not only has he been continuing his almost otherworldly hitting, as compared to the 'Mendoza' shortstop from early last season - and he's hitting long homeruns   in ATT - but , worst of all, he's doing the finger salute now, like Panda, above (where they raise their fingers to the Lord after accomplishing one of their otherworldly feats...a . It seems like especially common practice among the (PED) users...

MUST BE BASEBALL TESTING TIME - SCUTARO, OTHERS AVERAGES DOWN

MUST BE BASEBALL TESTING TIME - SCUTARO, OTHERS AVERAGES DOWN

Must be testing time as a number of the boys (Torrez, Blanco and Scutaro) are down in the averages but they'll be back. So, if one gets caught like Melky the Giants will send out to Venezuela or somewhere and put them with #Scutaro or #Pablo for a little training... Pablo's definitely carrying over the juice from last October  when he hit more homers the last month than the whole rest of season including that spectacular blast in the series. Pablo hit a blast tonight against LA off a good pitch by Dodger's Beckett.  #Crawford and #Belt look like new #PED guys with spring averages over 100 points higher than last season  Check out more of the sorry state of baseball, in our opinion, from our research department @ http://wheredidyougojoedimaggio1.blogspot.com/
